As you already decided to start your sailing holiday in marina Kaštela, we wanted you to learn something about Kaštel Gomilicas's historical background. 

Basic info about Kaštela:

It stretches over the length of 17 kilometers. There are 7 of Kaštela (Kaštel Sućurac, Kaštel Gomilica, Kaštel Kambelovac, Kaštel Lukšić, Kaštel Stari, Kaštel Novi, Kaštel  Štafilić). Our town is specific because of the fact that it developed around 7 settlements/castles. Each village has its own - particularity merged into character of this part of Mediterranean. Radun and Rudine emerge in recent years as the two new smaller centers.

Cultural events in Kaštela:

Every year from July 1 – August 31 the ”Kaštela Cultural Summer” takes place. There are over 60 exhibitions, theatre shows, pop and classical music concerts, folklore, sport events and festivities. Events are held at the most attractive places at the historic centers, castles and by the sea.

We especially highlight the “Evenings of Dalmatian Songs” held every July in Kaštel Kambelovac. Traditional a cappella singing arranged in modern or traditional manner is cherished there.

Kaštel Gomilica's history:

In 1529 the benedictine sisters built this fortification (kaštilac) on a sea reef called Gomilica. The reef is right next to the marina Kaštela and it is free and open to public. People still live in the castle. The castle's entrance was protected by a tower erected above a stone bridge permeated with arcades. At the entrance there was a moveable wooden bridge. The wooded bridge was replaces with a stone bridge a couple of years ago. Between the walls of this castle inhabitants from Gornje and Donje Kozice moved in and settled down after the Turks destroyed their villages. Slowly more and more people moved and settled down around the castle. The "village" started to expand. Around the castle you can still see the examples how old houses were been built ages ago. Kaštel Gomilica has 3 old churches that are also worthy of seeing and are situated near marina Kaštela (Sv. Jeronim, Sv. Kuzma and Damjan).
