Octopus salad recipe - perfect food for your sailing holiday in summer 2022!

Enjoy this delicious meal with friends or family while sailing in summer 2022 :)

This is what you need:

  • 1 frozen octopus
  • 1 red onion sliced thinly
  • 2-3 cloves garlic 
  • a couple of small  potatoes
  • Olive oil to taste (find it on some local flea market in Croatia)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Red wine Vinegar to taste
  • half of a lemon for seasoning (optional, not needed)
  • 1  diced tomato
  • cork from a bottle of wine
  • Bay leaf

How to prepare your perfect octopus salad:

Before you plan on cooking the octopus, make sure to freeze it or buy a frozen one.  You ask yourself why? Because when cooking a frozen octopus, you get the best meat—tender, juicy, soft, pure perfection.

 Put the frozen octopus into a large pot of water and bring it to a boil together with a couple of bay leafs and a cork. Try to find a wine cork and add it to the water to ensure tenderness. Once it reaches a boil, lower the temperature and cover the pot. Leave it for about 1 and a half hours until the meat is tender.
Even though the octopus is soft, its tentacles with remain a little bit firm. You need to peel the skin by rinsing the octopus under warm water. Chop the octopus into pieces of about 3 cm long.
The main part is officially done.
Peel the potatoes and boil them, drain the water, leave them to cool down and slice the potatoes in pieces.
In a bowl you need to combine the octopus, potatoes, onions, garlic and tomato sprinkle some salt and pepper to taste. Put some olive above it (a generous amount is recommended), red wine vinegar and juice of half a lemon.
Mix everything well and it is ready to serve.
